Netflix are attempting to bully W3C into adding DRM to HTML5

Some of you may have missed the recent developments within the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) which have implications for the future security and openness of the Web. Big Media (in the form of Netflix) are attempting to standardize Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) within the scope W3C's HTML5 standard. The relevant proposed specification is Encrypted Media Extensions. See also this W3C mailing list conversation.

Of course to people like us "non-modifiable" reads like a challenge,

Three of the biggest players (Google, Apple, Microsoft) are already on board with this.

In short: keep proprietary crap away from our open Web! And don't use Netflix
